Changing visual appearance
« on: February 02, 2021, 01:30:52 PM »
I just noticed the bar at the bottom of PD has some minor overlaps (see the first picture). Can this be fixed?

Second thing: I would like to change the color of the lights (yellow Sun, ivory Moon) for the 24x24 glyphs. For all other sizes, I would like to have them in black (see the second picture). That seems to work at first, but after closing and reopening PD it changes the color of the other sizes, too (see the third picture). Sometimes, however, all planetary glyphs appear black.

Hi Sindy - good to hear from you. These things are Jean's department. I'm sure he'll get back to you soon.

Take care. Ed

Hi Sindy,

About the status bar, it's a 'known issue'. I couldn't find the space to add both the planets and the checkboxes to the status.

Second, changing colors works for all sizes, you can't change the color for 24x24 only.
If all appear black while this has not been set, it's a bug, never seen that.

All right. Thanks for the reply, Ed and Jean! I'll go with the color change in all sizes, then. The overlap issue in the status bar is not a big one either.

Ed: Do I understand right that the 'topic' placement in Data / Lots - Topic Listing in the Greek module should be the house placement the lot is in? At the moment, it shows different placements for some lots than in Data / Lots - Degree Listing. I first thought this could be due to different house systems used. But this doesn't seem to be the case. It may also be that I do not understand the idea behind it...

Colors / symbols is a bit of a mess. For a regular horoscope window there can be 3 different fontsizes in effect and each can be a different symbolfont. The column on the left and the elements table can be 16 or 24, the wheel can be 16, 24 or 32, the aspecttable in the lower left corner only 16.

Say you have large fonts set, but you want to change the 24 font for the column to some other symbolfont, you first have to change the general font size to Normal, only then you can select which symbolfont you want for normal.

Same situation when editing fonts, it's a design oversight. Maybe someday.. but there's a lot of work and code involved.

HI Sindy - the 'topic' placement in Data / Lots - Topic Listing in the Greek module should be the house placement the lot is in?

I put this in the help, but maybe it needs a bit of explanation:

Users can choose between showing lots calculated from degree to degree, or lots that are calculated from topic to topic (without consideration of the degree).

Basically it's the idea that instead of using the precise degree for the calculation of the lot, the topic positions of the planets/points are used to generate a topic position for the lot. I don't know if there's any textual basis for this, but it makes sense, especially if one is using whole sign houses. Essentially if planet B is four 'signs' ahead of planet A, the lot position is four signs ahead of the rising sign.

I hope that's a bit clearer.

Thanks for the reply, Ed!

"HI Sindy - the 'topic' placement in Data / Lots - Topic Listing in the Greek module should be the house placement the lot is in?" That is how I understood it. But here is the problem. The 'topic' placement shown in Data / Lots - Topic Listing is not the WSH placement the lot is in. In some cases, it is one sign off. Don't know why. In Data / Lots - Degree Listing it shows the right house positions.

HI Sindy - it's hard to diagnose the difficulty without some data. Could you PM me a couple of chart details that I could look at. There might be a bug! It's not unknown in my modules......

Basically it works like this:

Ascendant at 20 Pisces, Moon at 20 Taurus, Sun at 5 Capricorn, day chart.

In 360 notation:

350 + 50 - 275 = 125 = 5 Leo

Fortune is at 5 Leo by degree. (I hope the maths is right).

However by topic - Capricorn to Taurus is four whole signs.

Fortune is in Cancer by topic, adding four whole signs to Pisces. That is, move topic of Sun to rising sign and see which sign the moon ends up in.

It would not be unusual for there to be a sign's difference between the lot placed by degree and its placement by topic (whole sign).

All the best. Ed
