Some small anomalies or bugs
« on: August 18, 2020, 01:01:57 PM »
Can I put here the small anomalies that I encounter over time to avoid overloading the forum?

As I use the pc simulator on mac https://winebottler.kronenberg.org which works well in general it is sometimes possible that the errors are related to this.

Hi Jeremy,

If they are not too small, go ahead. Did that install on Mac go easy? I could redirect questions for installing wine on Mac to this forum too.

Hi Jeremy - it would be good to post bugs/glitches on the forum. I suggest that each bug gets a separate thread. It will be easier to respond that way. It would also be helpful to know specifically which module is affected, with a description of what happens. Screenshots are always helpful too. If it is appropriate to put the specific data on the thread that would be very useful as that is the quickest way to try and recreate the problem.

Thanks for your interest in supporting Planetdance in this way.

Ed

hello everyone
yes so a thread per problem and maybe this thread reserved to wine, if you want
Having said that there is not so much to say
I didn't have any specific problem installing it on mac. it virtually recreates a pc environment in a folder and creates a kind of bottle for each program. Once done we install planet dance or other soft in a classic way.
I noticed on the other hand that there can be bugs while passing by the installation in the software, so it is better to download by the site and launch the external installer. It recognizes the exe file without problem.
I went through another wrapper which worked much less well but this one is without big problems (except recently where I had to re-import the backup.
I use a lot of modules  but if I come across wine specific concerns, it would be good to write them down here

just this small graphic problem here because I think it is specific to wine.

since the beginning that I use planet dance, we can see on the side on the "time" buttons (instead of hours days) and in some cases a graphic bug of which I attach a copy here. Sometimes they disappear
also I have to resize the window to bring to normal OR pass de mouse over

not so terrible if this is only on wine

Thanks Jeremy - I'm happy to deal with any bugs in the modules I code. Some of the larger modules (Ed Greek, Medieval Traditional Chart, Vedic Horoscope) are upwards of 5000 lines of code each so there are bound to be some little problems. The issue above will be to do with the core code of Planetdance which Jean looks after - it's written in C++ which is much more complex than Astrobasic. All the best. Ed

I suspect that bug is wine-only, those 'labels' are set to 'autosize' and wine has trouble doing it. Can't do much about this, sorry.
The installer is needed to register the planetdance.ttf font in windows, the list functions all make use of that font, that's really the only thing the installer is needed for.

yes I understand well and it was in this mind, in order to report and correct small bugs when you want too. Its more easy for users to find them.

another exemple
progession/secondary - primary cusps :
I use a lot the double clik to return to the original setting ( in time menu on the right ). But here the moon rocks somewhere else and we have to press a time button to get it back to the correct setting

Jean
Yes I think too and frankly not very boring in this case

edit:
for wine and install on mac
I saw that on facebook some people had trouble getting wine to work on mac, in fact when you look at it,  its a mess; its not obvious depending on the system. Would have to try on a new partition because I realize that old "crossover" bottles are used on my system, even though I don't have it anymore. I will think on that

Don't know if this is the right place to post in. Sorry, if it's not. There is a minor visual issue in Horoscope / Vedic / Nakshatras Chart. See the picture below.

Hi Sindy  - there does seem to be some sort of bug here. I get quite different nakshatras glyphs to you for a start. In the chart attached, the divisions are not placed accurately either. I'll take a look at it. Can you say more specifically what your concerns are. Thanks. Ed

Seems an ugly bug there Sindy. Looks like the nakshatra symbols are not coming trough. Is this on windows? Did you have this before?
I don't know if it helps but you could try this, download latest and put this in c:\planetdance\pd.ini

[Main]
....
nakshatraset=1
....

Currently that value is 2, maybe setting it to 1 will fix it for you.

Hi Sindy - I've sent Jean the fix for the glyph positioning. If you download again shortly it should fix that problem. Let me know how it goes.

Jean, yes this is on Windows. I haven't used the Nakshatra wheel before. I just took some screenshots from the program for the article I'm writing to show people what you can do with PD.

I updated PD. The same issue appears again.

I cannot find 'nakshatraset' in the location you mentioned, either. Do I just put it in there?

Hi Sindy - I think Jean is suggesting copy and paste that piece of text into the pd.ini file. The first section of that file is headed [Main]. I'd recommend making a copy of the file before you do this. Just copy it and rename it something like original_pd.ini. Then you can always get the file back if something goes wrong. Ed
