Planetdance for windows / Re: Some small anomalies or bugs
« on: August 18, 2020, 06:24:10 PM »
Hi Jeremy - it would be good to post bugs/glitches on the forum. I suggest that each bug gets a separate thread. It will be easier to respond that way. It would also be helpful to know specifically which module is affected, with a description of what happens. Screenshots are always helpful too. If it is appropriate to put the specific data on the thread that would be very useful as that is the quickest way to try and recreate the problem.

Thanks for your interest in supporting Planetdance in this way.

Ed

Thanks Jean - I can see merits in both approaches here so it's good to have the option for people. Another great example of being able to customise Planetdance to meet everyone's requirements. Best wishes. Ed

Hi Jean - thanks for the response - that makes sense. I'll make sure I increase string length to accommodate longer phrases. Ed

« on: August 15, 2020, 04:39:32 PM »
Hi there - there's a new release of the horary module today. This is an important bug fix. The bug is rare, but now removed.

v3.06 - bug fix for indexSig var, various bug fixes for voc moon, formatting fixes for smaller screens

Please report further bugs in this thread please.

I will be releasing a video for this module over the next few days.

Best wishes. Ed

Astrobasic / string length bug?
« on: August 15, 2020, 07:58:04 AM »
Hi Jean - I found an astrobasic bug (maybe) in the horary script. If the string length exceeds the length set at the variable declaration and the test condition is met, the string doesn't get written to the canvas, but a blank line gets thrown.

In the case below, the if test was met, but the string length was > 66 which I had set with s[66]. The putstring wasn't actioned, but the countLine was incremented. The effect was no string output, but the line was shown blank.

line 2067

 if ((planet_hour = MERCURY or planet_hour = SATURN) && x1 = 1){
     strset(s, "%s", "Planetary hour ruler and ascendant both cold and dry - melancholic");
     putstring(10, 10 + countLine * 30, s);
     countLine += 1;}

I fixed it with s[99] but there was no warning like "string length exceeded" so it took a while to track down the error. It might be helpful to include this warning for coders.

Planetdance for windows / Re: Azimuth
« on: August 14, 2020, 07:30:10 AM »
Hi Jean - I think a global switch would be the best option. It's a bit weird that 50% of astrologers think azimuth should be measured from the south point of the horizon but I guess their choice should be respected. Thanks. Ed

Hi Harry - thanks for using the forum. The strict astronomical definition of azimuth is "the bearing of an object measured as an angle round the horizon eastwards starting from north as the zero point." Mitton, The Penguin Dictionary of Astronomy. Your point is well made. In the script Horoscope-Extra-Local Horizon Horoscope you will see the convention is adopted. This measurement is latitude dependent, so a southern hemisphere horoscope should show 0 degrees for the MC, as far as I know.

I wonder if Jean could have a switch to allow people to choose either definition. Some astrologers are rather wedded to the idea that azimuth is measured from the south point of the horizon. I'm not really sure why.

Best wishes. Ed
